Zambia: Building a microinsurance company strategy

Challenge

An insurer saw a major opportunity to serve low-income households and micro, small, and medium enterprises, or MSMEs, with microinsurance.

Solution

We evaluated the Zambian insurance sector in depth and used the results in a strategy workshop with company leaders. Together, we built a five-year roadmap showing the steps from pilot to production to growth, including vision, opportunity, resourcing, and competitive strategy.

Results

Co-creating the strategy enhanced buy-in across the organization, helping drive the initiative forward. With a clear plan, they could also unlock donor funding.
