Is there a business case for microinsurance among insurers and delivery channels?

Existing research on the business case for microinsurance focuses on how to operate successfully in the microinsurance field, but tells us little about whether and under what conditions a profit motivated firm should enter or maintain operations in microinsurance. Our Landscape Matrix aggregates findings from existing studies.

MILK is using a combination of case studies and a global analysis of the microinsurance industry to begin to fill the gaps in understanding of the business case for microinsurance.

MILK's business case work consists primarily of:

  • Completing 15 original case studies of insurers, intermediaries, and distributors grouped by product and country.
  • Leveraging (and where appropriate, updating) 20 to 30 existing case studies.
  • Conducting in-depth analysis on various large intermediaries
  • Linking with other research and data collection efforts to provide a broader analysis of the microinsurance industry and emerging trends.
