GlobalAgRisk

GlobalAgRisk specializes in developing innovative financial instruments for agricultural and weather risk management. This work includes designing, underwriting, actuarial analysis, and legal and regulatory advising to make new financial instruments viable in lower income countries. GlobalAgRisk has worked with governments, international donor agencies, and the private sector on the design, development, and implementation of risk transfer products with the goal of creating sustainable products that meet the needs of the rural poor.

Ag Risk Education Library

The National Ag Risk Education Library is a major component of USDA's Risk Management Education (RME) program. The Library organizes thousands of risk management materials which help producers and agricultural professionals quickly locate information, tools, and assistance on specific risk management topics. The library includes the main library, a budget library, and a financial database.

Munich Climate Insurance Initiative

The Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII) was initiated by Munich Re in April 2005 in response to the growing realization that insurance solutions can play a role in adaptation to climate change, as suggested in the Framework Convention and the Kyoto Protocol. This initiative is formed by insurers, climate change and adaptation experts, NGOs, and policy researchers intent on finding solutions to the risks posed by climate change. MCII provides a forum and gathering place for insurance-related expertise applied to climate change issues.

ProVention Consortium

ProVention was established by the World Bank in 2000 to address the increasing frequency and severity of natural disasters and their social, economic and environmental impacts on developing countries. As poor countries continue to be disproportionately affected by disasters and incur the majority of costs, there is a growing recognition of the inextricable links between disaster vulnerability, poverty and development.

Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF)

IFC, together with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), also a member of the World Bank Group, established the Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF). GIIF takes an innovative index-based approach to insurance that aims to expand access to insurance products in developing countries, and particularly to farmers and people in agrarian communities.

African Risk Capacity

The African Risk Capacity (ARC) is a new risk management initiative being examined by the African Union. The goal is to create a pan-African disaster risk pool to potentialy improve natural disaster responses. This website contains background information on ARC as well as current information to keep you updated on the initiative's progress.

Weather Risk Management Association

The Weather Risk Management Association (WRMA) was created to be the industry association for weather risk management professionals to enhance public awareness of the weather risk industry and promote the growth and general welfare of the weather risk market. WRMA’s membership includes over 40 companies from more than 12 countries. Through their site, weather data and documentation of weather risk can be found.

The Climate Corporation (formerly WeatherBill) is the only on-line service that allows businesses to protect revenue and control costs from the impact of bad weather. They offer risk management solutions for: Estimated irrigation cost for every inch of rain below normal level during growing season; estimated crop yield for every 'hot day' above normal during growing season; full value of crop if there is a 'frost event' during growing season.

NatCatService

Comprising some 30,000 data records, NatCatSERVICE is the most comprehensive natural catastrophe loss database in the world. Approximately 1,000 events are recorded and analysed every year. The information collated can be used to document and perform risk and trend analyses on the extent and intensity of individual natural hazard events in various parts of the world. A selection of analyses can be accessed here. You can find annual statistics from 2004 onwards, informative maps, Focus Analyses and comprehensive basic knowledge in Touch Natural Hazards. Registration is free of charge.
