We are pleased to provide you with a copy of “Is there a Business Case for Microinsurance” published as a feature article in the October edition of A.M. Best Review, the leading monthly journal for the insurance industry. Co-authored by Rick Koven and Michael McCord, the article is a concise summary of our findings from three plus years of ground breaking research by the MILK project into the financial results of programs designed to provide insurance for the poor in Kenya, India, The Philippines, Colombia and other developing countries. We note the tremendous growth and promise of this emerging segment. We also provide a candid, data driven, assessment of the drivers of profitability (or lack thereof) and identify the significant challenges to financial sustainability. We believe the article will be of interest to insurers, donors, regulators and others interested in why, where and how microinsurance can work as a business while also meeting real financial security needs for the many billions of people at the bottom of the income pyramid.
