Asamoah

Ishmael Ohene Asamoah

Research and Actuarial Analyst Intern 


Ishmael is currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Akron in Ohio. He interned at the MicroInsurance Centre from May through July, 2015 as a Researcher and Actuarial Analyst. Ishmael holds a Master of Science in Actuarial Science in the Mathematics Department at Illinois State University. His insurance industry experience dates back nearly ten years when he received training as a life insurance agent for SIC Life Insurance Company in Ghana. He also tutored students in undergraduate-level mathematics and investment at Illinois State University.

Frank Danquah

Research and Actuarial Analyst Intern 


Frank received his Master of Science in Actuarial Science from the Mathematics Department at Illinois State University in May, 2015. He began his career in insurance and actuarial work at Unique Life Assurance in Accra, Ghana. Other insurance experience includes an internship at American Family Insurance in Madison, Wisconsin and graduate-level research and mentoring at Illinois State University. As an intern at the MicroInsurance Centre, Frank performed microinsurance data analysis and collaborated with staff and consultants on various projects. Frank currently works as a Data Quality Analyst at Caterpillar Inc. 


 

Amaan N. Khan

Research Associate/Intern


Amaan interned at the MicroInsurance Centre from September, 2014 through March, 2015. An international student from Lahore, Pakistan, he graduated from Lawrence University with a degree in Government and Economics. Amaan currently works as a Government Relations and Legal Affairs Associate at the Innovation Pavilion in Denver, CO. He is a native Urdu speaker, is proficient in French and can converse fluently in Hindi and Punjabi. His extensive internship experience includes work at human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, international law think tanks such as Research Society of International Law, Pakistan, corporate law firms, and various other institutions.


Armelle Otou Minkala

Senior Intern

Armelle joined the MicroInsurance Centre as an intern from June, 2013 until July, 2014. She is a native French speaker from Yaoundé, Cameroon and her developing world experience drives her interest in economic development and she hopes to pursue a career in this field. She has experience working with not-for-profit organizations such as Appleton Downtown Inc. and the Lawrence University Alumni, Development and Communications Office. Armelle graduated in June, 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Government (International relations) from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. Armelle is now based in Chicago, IL as a Fellow at the Academy of Public Health at West African Academy of Public Health.  


Valerie Doris Kessie

PR/Communications Intern

Valerie joined the MicroInsurance Centre as an intern from October, 2013 through September, 2014 while a student at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. She has experience working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington D.C. and also, with not-for-profit organizations such as MAYSHA and the West- African Medical Missions (WAMM) in Minnesota. Valerie graduated in June, 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental studies (policy) and French from Lawrence University. She is currently a Proposal/Marketing Coordinator at Michael Baker International in Washington, D.C. 


Alyssa Villaire

Research Assistant 

Alyssa joined the MicroInsurance Centre as an intern in October of 2013. She continued on as a Research Assistant on the team working on the 2014 Landscape of Microinsurance in Latin America and the Caribbean and the 2015 Landscape of Microinsurance in Africa. Alyssa is a 2014 graduate of Lawrence University, where she studied Government and Spanish. During her time at Lawrence, Alyssa’s interests in international development, human rights and journalism led her to internships with the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) in Washington, D.C., and KidsGive, a non-profit that promotes children’s education in Sierra Leone. She also studied Latin American politics and economics at the Universidad de Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Currently, Alyssa is a Grants Assistant at a private foundation in western Los Angeles, California. 


Regina Cornish

Research Assistant

Regina Cornish is a native Spanish speaker who was born and raised in Monterrey, México. She studied Government and Psychology at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. Regina interned at the MicroInsruance Centre from the summer of 2014 until January, 2015 as a Research Assistant in the Landscape study of microinsurance in Latin America and the Caribbean. Regina has volunteered multiple times with Operation Smile and was fortunate enough to go on several operating missions to Chiapas, México as well as attend a leadership conference in Beijing, China. Additionally, Regina studied abroad in France to improve her French language skills. She currently works as a Project Manager for Health Development Initiative (HDI) in Kigali, Rwanda.

Aimen Khan

Intern

Aimen interned with the MicroInsurance Centre from September, 2011 until June, 2012. He attended Lawrence University as an international student from Lahore, Pakistan, and graduated in 2013 with his Bachelor's degree in Economics and Government, cum laude. Aimen currently works as a Business Solutions Consultant for Google in Singapore.

Mariah Mateo Sarpong

Intern

Mariah began her internship with the MicroInsurance Centre in April of 2012. Upon graduating from Lawrence University magna cum laude in 2012 with her BA in Anthropology and Spanish, Interdisciplinary program in International Studies, she joined the team as a full-time staff member. In 2013-2014, Mariah was a Vittana Fellow in Accra, Ghana where she worked with partners Opportunity International Savings and Loans and Kingsbridge Microfinance Ltd for ten months. She currently works for the MicroInsurance Centre as a Project Manager/Communications Specialist. Mariah is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Regina Hammond 

Intern

Regina joined the MicroInsurance Centre as part of the Africa Landscape 2012 research team in July of 2012 and continued as an intern until June, 2013. She was also a member of the research team for the Landscape of Microinsurance in Africa 2015. Regina earned her Master's degree in Development Studies from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland and her Bacherlor's Degree in Economics and French from Lawrence University. She is currently residing in her home country of Ghana and working as an Independent Development Consultant.

Molly Ingram 

Intern

Originally from Topeka, Kansas, Molly attended Lawrence University and graduated magna cum laude in 2012 with her BA in Economics and Anthropology, Interdisciplinary program in International Studies. Molly interned with the MicroInsurance Centre from January, 2011 until June, 2012 when she became a full-time staff member until April, 2013. She then worked as a Project Associate for Innovations for Poverty Action in Bungoma, Kenya until 2015 when she began her graduate studies in Development Economics at UW-Madison.     

 


TasmiaRahman

Tasmia Rahman

Intern

Tasmia interned with the MicroInsurance Centre from October, 2010 until May, 2011. In 2011 she graduated from Lawrence University with her BA in Economics, Government and International Relations. Tasmia has since worked at Tata Consultancy Services in Eidson, New Jersey and BRAC Social Innovation Lab in Dhaka, Bangladesh, among other positions. She recently earned her Master's degree in International Development Policy from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and currently works as a Research Analyst for the Global Insights Initiative at The World Bank.
